After many years of lobbying for a direct service to and from London, Stratford upon Avon finally got one a day in the shape of an Intercity 125. Whilst it could not make up for the loss of Stratford upon Avon haivng a through line to Cheltenham it nevertheless did put Stratford upon Avon back on the railway tourist map for a while.
